Overview

A women only get together in the Yorkshire Dales combining hiking, wild swimming & eating delicious food. Staying in Swaledale in basic but cosy bunkbarn accommodation, located between the villages of Muker and Gunnerside. You will explore this amazing area by foot on a guided hike through Muker & Keld, taking in the old mining tracks, waterfalls and experience ascents & descents at a relaxed pace. You will take a picnic lunch to enjoy on the route before returning to the bunkbarn and heading off for a guided wild swim at the stunning Wain Wath Falls. This is next to the road side and a bus will be put on to take everyone down and bring you back again - the swim/dip is suitable for those with cold water experience and for those looking to give it a go. All meals will be provided throughout the stay and are all homecooked and nutritious, on the Friday evening we will have a BBQ accompanied by live acoustic music from a local artist.

Accommodation

You will spend two nights staying at the recently renovated Crow Trees Barn. This is a traditional barn located in the Yorkshire Dales countryside beside a working farm approximately a 10 minute drive from Reeth. The bunk barn is made up of cosy dorm rooms, an open plan kitchen, dining & lounge area, drying areas for your kit and outdoor areas for us to rest and relax if the weather allows. It also boasts gorgeous views across the Dale.

There is onsite parking, WiFi and toilet and shower rooms. Crow Trees Barn is the perfectly remote and an ideal space for relaxing, socialising and exploring this part of the Dales. To get here, it is approximately 50 minutes from the A1 and approx 50 minutes from the M6

Activities

HIKING a guided hike with a local expert who will lead you on a safe route. You can expect a relaxed pace suitable for the group as a whole. There will be a mix of terrains with no technical (such as scrambling) aspects but there will be a mix of ascents & descents along with soft & hard terrain. There is also the opportunity for a self guided hike, you will be given directions to take yourself on your own / with other members of the group.

WILD SWIMMING is a very popular activity and very important it is done in a safe environment. This guided session is led by Michael Monkman, he knows all the best spots in the Dales and will be on hand to guide you through the safety aspects and give you the techniques to deal with cold water. We recommend to do the dips/swim in a swimsuit to get the full benefit. If you have a health condition, please contact your GP in advance.

Who is this trip suitable for?

All the activities are a relaxed pace and a reasonable level of fitness is recommended to get the most out of each one, hiking distance is approx 6.5 miles and includes some ascents and descents. This women only retreat welcomes solo travellers and those travelling with a friend.

Itinerary

Friday - arrive 4pm onwards 6.30/7pm - delicious 2 course dinner

Saturday - breakfast 8am 9.30am - guided hike with Marc (discover the Keld - Muker circular loop - approx 6.5miles, you will take a picnic lunch with you) 3.30pm - head to Wain Wath Falls for guided wild swim / dip 6.30pm - BBQ & acoustic live music

Sunday - breakfast from 8.30am 10am - departure or go for a self guided local hike

Itineraries & timings are subject to change depending on weather conditions. The Yorkshire Dales are beautiful but the weather can be changeable

Prices & Dates

£285pp. A £150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure the booking

Accommodation is shared in bunk style rooms. There will be a maximum of 15 people on this trip, split across 4 different bedrooms You will need to bring your own bedding and towel.

Dietary Requirements - all of our food is made from fresh and is designed & created with a varied, gourmet vegetarian menu which is a combination of healthy meals and treats. Please let us know if you have any allergies and we will do our best to accommodate you, however please be aware that the kitchens we use can’t always be 100% allergen free.
